The “Toxic” singer, 28, has been telling pals that Mel, 54, has been pouring his heart out to her — confiding that he fears for his sanity and is convinced he’s destroyed his once-hot career. “Mel has been talking to her a lot,” a friend of the singer’s tells In Touch. “They speak on the phone all the time, usually late at night.”

Britney’s may seem like an unlikely shoulder for the Braveheart star to cry on, but the pop star’s pal says she is simply returning the favor to the actor, who went out of his way to help her when she went through her own breakdown. “Mel was one of the only people who reached out to help Britney when she was at her lowest point, and she believes that demonstrates what a loving and wonderful man he is,” says the friend. “She wants people to give him a second chance — just like he gave her one when everyone else turned away.”

Mel Gibson can now be heard unleashing a profanity-laced tirade against ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva – using the N-word and other derogatory phrases – in a recording that’s hit the Internet.

“You go around sashaying in your tight clothes. I won’t stand for that anymore,” Gibson tells his ex.

Gibson, 54, also accuses the Russian singer, 40, of getting breast implants and trying to breastfeed their 8-month-old daughter Lucia.

“You are provocatively dressed all the time with your fake boobs that you feel you have to show off,” he allegedly says on the tape. “I’m just telling you the truth. I don’t like it. I don’t believe you anymore. I don’t trust you. I don’t love you. OK? I will take care of my child but I don’t want you anymore.”

As the conversation progresses, Gibson’s voice rises to increasingly angry levels, while Grigorieva remains calm.

The “Braveheart” actor, Mel Gibson,54, and his Russian-born singer girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, 39, ere reported on Wednesday to have split up five months after the birth of their baby daughter.

The Oscar-winning actor and director of blockbuster “The Passion of the Christ” went public about his romance with Grigorieva shortly after filing for divorce in April 2009 from his wife of nearly 30 years, Robyn.

People.com said the pair “just drifted apart” and quoted an unnamed friend as saying the split was amicable and that they hoped to raise their baby, Lucia, together.

Grigorieva, a classical pianist and model, released a debut pop music album in August. Gibson directed the music videos for four of the songs. She also has a teenage son with former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton.

Mel Gibson’s spokesman declined to comment on the reports.
