Synopsis: Titanic shipmates Kathy Bates, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kate Winslet step onboard for director Sam Mendes’ tale of suburban malaise in 1950s-era Connecticut. Adapted from the classic 1961 novel by author Richard Yates, Revolutionary Road tells the tale of a young Connecticut couple whose once-idealistic relationship steadily deteriorates into a ceaseless cycle of petty jealousy and bickering as they strive to retain their independence in the conformity-obsessed world of picket fences and perfectly manicured lawns. Ever since they first met, Frank (DiCaprio) and April (Winslet) saw themselves as special and different. They strive to form their relationship around higher ideals, though upon moving into their new home on Revolutionary Road, the defiant couple pledges never to be confined by the social conventions of the era. As time passes, however, Frank and April gradually become the very thing that they both feared most — a typical suburban family complete with abandoned dreams and faded hopes. Frank loses his nerve after taking a comfortable job with a reliable salary, and April morphs into an unsatisfied homemaker desperate for passion and excitement. But April’s independent spirit hasn’t been suffocated just yet, and when she hatches a plan to head for Paris, her need to escape at all costs stands in direct contrast to Frank’s desire to hold on to what they already have.

Kate Winslet’s new Lancome commercial features the Oscar-winning actress naked, in a sheet, in the middle of a swanky hotel room, talking on the phone, and putting on lipstick.

“I will tell you that when I was heavy, people would say to me — and it was such a backhanded compliment — they would say, ‘You’ve got such a beautiful face,’ in the way of, like, ‘Oh, isn’t it a shame that from the neck down you’re questionable,’” she recalls.

Kate Winslet’s weight isn’t the only part of her appearance under scrutiny; she also denies ever having plastic surgery.

“No, I have never tried any of that stuff,” she tells the mag. “I don’t have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else’s or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are.”

And she admits she had become familiar with losing out on prizes.

The Titanic star tells America’s Glamour magazine, “I was the kid who never won the races. I never jumped the highest. I wasn’t on the list of the high-achieving. That wasn’t me.

“So winning the Oscar was like winning all the prizes in one single night that I never won as a kid. For me, it was an internal fist-pumping moment of ‘yes’.”

“Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year,” their lawyers said in a statement. “The split is amicable and by mutual agreement.”

“Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.”

Kate Winslet has topped a new poll to find out the ultimate natural beauty.

The Oscar winning sensation beat Breakfast At Tiffany’s star, and one of the world’s most beautiful women, Audrey Hepburn into second place.

According to The Sun, The Revolutionary Road actress was hailed for having “a classic English rose complexion without needing lots of make-up to look stunning”.

Cheryl Cole, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson also appeared on the list, which was voted for by 3,000 men and women.

Earlier this year, Playboy boss Hugh Hefner said that he would like to feature Winslet as a centrefold model in the magazine.

2009 is surely turning into an eventful year for Kate Winslet. After winning an Oscar, her first after six nominations, two Golden Globes, and a Bafta, the British actress has been offered a spot on the cover of Playboy magazine.

Magazine mogul Hugh Hefner had revealed he would love to have the The Reader star join previous posers including Marilyn Monroe, Sharon Stone, Pamela Anderson and Charlize Theron.

Hefner told a newspaper: “There’s no question we would be interested in Kate. It’s a competitive market, more than it used to be, so she would be a most welcome addition in our pages,” reports The Sun.

Winslet has in the past appeared stark naked in many of her movies, including The Reader, for which she won the Best Actress Oscar. But she has previously sworn not to repeat her clothes-dropping act in future for fear of being typecast.

“This is not a proposal that would interest her,” Contactmusic quoted her spokesperson as saying.

Kate Winslet Wins Best Actress for `The Reader'

Kate Winslet pulled off the expected Sunday night, winning the Academy Award for best actress for her quietly powerful performance in “The Reader.”

Winslet was giddy and emotional as she accepted her trophy.

“I’d be lying if I haven’t made a version of this speech before,” she said. “I think I was probably 8 years old and staring into the bathroom mirror and this (Oscar) would be a shampoo bottle. But it’s not a shampoo bottle now.”

This is the first Oscar for Winslet, who’s been nominated five other times for her roles in “Titanic,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Iris,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Little Children.”

The best-actress category was loaded with strong contenders: Meryl Streep was another front-runner with her 15th acting nomination as a prickly nun in “Doubt.” Anne Hathaway played against her wholesome image as a toxic narcissist who leaves rehab to wreak havoc on her sister’s wedding in “Rachel Getting Married.” Angelina Jolie dug deep to portray a mother of a missing child in “Changeling.” And Melissa Leo was powerful as mom who forges an unlikely friendship in “Frozen River.”

Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz have struck up a surprisingly close friendship in the run-up to this year’s (09) Oscars – despite only having met three times. The unlikely pair, who are both competing for this year’s (09) Best Supporting Actress gong, have been offering each other phone support daily in the countdown to the prestigious show.

And Cruz insists she and Winslet enjoy a far-from-bitter relationship, contrary to reports.
She says, “Kate and I have become very close even though we have only met three times. Everyone likes to think there’s rivalry between us but that’s not true.”

Penelope Cruz is nominated for her part in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Winslet received the nod for her role in The Reader.
The Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on 22 February (09).

Kate Winslet has revealed she had to walk home from work after she found out she’d got her big break.

The Little Children star was working in a sandwich shop when she found out she’d been cast in Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures in 1994.

Kate Winslet told Parade magazine recently: “I made sandwiches. I cut up cheese. I ground coffee. I loved it there.

“Somebody else had to finish making this poor guy’s sandwich, because I was hysterical. Then I had to walk home, because I had forgotten to collect my wages before I left, and I had no bus fare.”

Kate received critical acclaim for the film and has been nominated for acting Academy Awards on five separate occasions since then.
