Group members consisted of brothers, Jonathan Knight and Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood.
Originally called “Nynuk”, a name that made the boys cringe, Columbia Records stated they saw no market for the band with such a name when they signed them to a one-record deal in 1985. The group subsequently settled on the name “New Kids On The Block” after a rap song that Donnie had written for their debut album which was released October 1986.
Donnie Wahlberg’s younger brother, Mark Wahlberg was an original member of the group, but jumped ship due to the direction the band was taking. He was looking for a more harder edge.
Commonly known as “NKOTB”.
New Kids on the Block are the first words in “Summer Girls” by British techno group LFO.
The group disbanded in 1994, but reunited in 2008.
