Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are introducing their little baby boy, Sparrow, to the world via People magazine. Big sister, Harlow, is almost 2 already.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Richie told the magazine about her family. “The only thing you want is for your kids to be healthy and happy, and they are. I’m right where I belong.”

In the issue, Richie dishes that her daughter is absolutely smitten with her younger brother. And she says that she’s happy she had her baby girl first. “I’m glad I had a girl before I had a boy,” Richie said. “She just loves him so much.” Joel added that their daughter isn’t rough with her little brother. “She’s very gentle with him,” he said.

After weeks of speculation around whether or not she had given birth, Nicole made the initial announcement about the arrival of Sparrow on her blog. “In the middle of the night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden,” Richie wrote. “He weighs 7 lbs., 14 oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.”
