The ‘I Look To You’ singer – who has won a staggering 21 AMAs from 37 nominations – will be handed the International Artist Award at the star-studded ceremony later this month and will perform her new single ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’.

AMA producer Larry Klein said: “We’re honoured to have Whitney Houston back on the AMA stage after 10 years.

“She has won the most AMAs of any female artist in history and is without a doubt an international superstar so it’s only fitting we honour her with the International Artist Award this year at such an important time in her career.”

The International Artist Award has only been presented seven times in the awards’ 36-year history.

Previous recipients include Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Madonna and Beyonce Knowles.

Other stars to perform at this year’s AMAs at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre include Rihanna, Shakira, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez and The Black Eyed Peas.

Whitney Houston has 'wardrobe malfunction'

Thankfully for all involved, the incident wasn’t X-rated, as Houston’s incident involved the back of her dress. However, it was another snag, albeit minor, in Houston’s long-awaited comeback, which also included a less-than-stellar “Good Morning America” performance that the diva felt obliged to apologize for.

After serving as a guest mentor to the show’s contestants on Saturday, Houston sang her latest single, “Million Dollar Bill,” on Sunday’s results show. Just over two minutes into the song, a strap at the back of Houston’s long silver dress popped open.

While Houston made one brief attempt to adjust the rebellious strap, she quickly returned her full attention to the song, and seemed to take the mishap in stride.

“I sang myself out of my clothes,” Houston joked to the audience after the song ended, before going on to discuss the U.K. release of her album “I Look To You,” and a scheduled world tour stop in April.

It’s been a long seven years since Whitney’s last release, during which time she battled personal issues and went through a divorce from Bobby Brown. Here’s the first single, “I Look To You,” off her upcoming record of the same name.

Whitney Houston made her long awaited return to stage at the Live & Loud music festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday night.

The 44-year-old singer came on after midnight, wowed a crowd of about 10,000 people, who were earlier entertained by a host of singers such as Shaggy and Elliot Yamin at the event which started at 3pm.

She sang “Step By Step”,”Heartbreak Hotel”,”I Will Always Love You” and other hits song in that concert.

Whitney told the audience she’s dropping a new album soon and while rendering ‘My Love is Your Love’, her daughter joined her on stage to sing a duet.

I grew up with drugs, but it wasn’t until recently, that I grew out of them.

You name it, I took it. Cocaine, ecstasy, even heroin – although I never injected… I had a job so I looked like I was holding everything together. But then the cracks started to show.

I take full responsibility for my actions. I also accept that there are various personal issues that I need to address and have started taking the difficult, yet necessary, steps to resolve them.

Cannabis keeps me sane and happy. I’d say it’s a great drug – but obviously it’s not very healthy. You can’t afford to smoke it if you’ve got anything to do.

Keith Richards:
The strangest thing I’ve tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father. He was cremated and I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn’t have cared.

Whitney Houston:
My business is sex, drugs, rock and roll. You know? My friends, we have a good time. But as you get older and you get wiser – you stop a lot of the kid stuff. Trust me. I partied my tail off. You get to a point where… the party’s over.

I still love the odd hallucinogenic drug. If I had a drug of choice, it would be magic mushrooms.
